Annual Leave


Your leave entitlement is as follows

Less than 2 years relevant service         22 Days - 176 hours
2 or more years relevant service            25 Days - 200 hours
10 or more years relevant service          27 days - 216 hours
15 or more years relevant service         28 Days - 224 hours
20 or more years relevant service          30 Days - 240 hours

Where an officer is appointed, resigns or retires from the police service during a calendar year, the following calculation must be used to establish annual leave entitlement as per Police Regulation 33:

Annual leave entitlement divided by 12 months, multiplied by the actual number of completed months they have worked in the year

Annual Leave Ammendments



If you have not used all of your allocated leave in any given year then regulations make provision for 5 days (40 hours) to be carried forward to the following year. This is the limit unless there are exceptional circumstances and it is in the interests of the efficiency of the force.

Further provision is made for the use in advance of 5 days (40 hours) from the next years allocation. This must be used in the final month of the current leave year.

Annual Leave should not be cancelled unless on the authority of a court or the Chief Officer Team.

If you are recalled from a period of annual leave then you are entitled to compensation. (The period of annual leave is defined as an absence of 3 or more days, where at least one of the days is annual leave and the others are rostered rest days, lieu time, public holidays, free days or monthly leave days).

Compensation is as follows:

If the day of the recall is a day of annual leave or a day taken in lieu of overtime,

1. If recalled for 1 or 2 days, an additional 2 days annual leave (or 1 days annual leave and 1 days pay at double time - your choice.) in lieu for each day recalled or;

2. If recalled for 3 or more days, 2 days annual leave (or as above ) in lieu of each of the first 2 days and 1.5 days annual leave (or 1 days annual leave and 0.5 days pay at double time - your choice) in lieu for each day thereafter.
