National Police Memorial Day serves as a reminder of the sacrifices that thousands of officers have made in the line of duty, says branch chair Nick Munnelly.
Around 5,000 officers have died while on duty and the police family will come together at Coventry Cathedral on Sunday 28 September to pay their respects.
Nick said: “It’s incredibly important that we remember the sacrifice that so many of our colleagues have made in serving and protecting the public.
“The service is an opportunity to do just that and to show our support for their family and friends.
The online booking system is now open for people to register for this year’s service.
The service will bring together police officers and senior leaders from across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Fallen officers
It will also be attended by politicians, civic leaders, and families of fallen officers.
Nick said: “It is an incredibly moving occasion and I’d encourage as many of our members to attend if possible.”
The National Police Memorial Day service rotates around each of the four countries in the United Kingdom.
It is held on the closest Sunday to 29 September which is St Michael’s Day, the patron saint of policing.
