Northumbria Police Federation today remembers Sergeant William Forth, who was posthumously awarded the Queen’s Commendation for Bravery.
William, who was known as Bill, died after responding to a call on 21 March 1993.
Shortly after arriving in Sunniside, Whickham near Gateshead, he was beaten and stabbed to death.
Bill was posthumously awarded the Queen’s Commendation for Bravery in 1996. A memorial to his service, bravery, and sacrifice stands in Sun Hill, Sunniside.
Courage
Northumbria Police Federation chair Nick Munnelly said: “Today we remember the exceptional courage and service of Sergeant William Forth.
“It is 33 years since that fateful day, but it is still remembered by a lot of people.
“Bill represents the very best of policing in this country, putting himself in the line of danger to protect others.
“We will never forget his sacrifice.
“We will hold his family, friends, and colleagues in our thoughts as we remember Bill today.”
