Paternity Leave
OPL entitles an officer / member of staff to up to two weeks leave at or around the time of their child's birth/adoption placement. Officers / staff can choose to start this leave:
- from the date the child is born/placed with the adopter.
- on a predetermined date after the birth or adoption placement providing this is within 56 calendar days of the child's birth/adoption placement.
Paternity leave must be taken in complete weeks and as one period.
Entitlement will be calculated on a pro-rata basis for officers / staff working reduced hours.
Paternity Pay
With effect from 5 April 2015, Statutory Paternity Pay (SPP) is £140.
Paternity Pay in respect of Ordinary Paternity Leave

Once paternity pay begins, any unsocial hours allowance paid to an officer will be stopped for the duration of the paternity leave. This allowance will recommence upon return to work if eligible.
Police Staff

Where the weekly salary is less than SPP, the officer / member of staff will be paid 90 per cent of their normal weekly earnings.
